Be afraid of poets –
they have a hand-grenade
made of dreams
If you bully them too much
they will throw it against the wall
If you try to snatch it
they will toss it in water
Whatever they possess
they will not let you take it
If you gather together and come as a crowd
even then
they have the sky in their possession
They will bring an army of clouds and drown you
The earth is theirs, they
will not let you get away anywhere
They have a boat
They will sit you down and take you
and leave you on some island
When you will live among birds you will forget everything
the face of the poets and your own face too
When they come back to get you
perhaps you will put the birds forward

شاعروں سے ڈرو
خوابوں کا
ہینڈ گرینیڈ ہے ان کے پاس
اگر زیاده کچھ کہا تو
دیوار پہ دے ماریں گے
اگر چھیننے کی کوشش کی تو
پانی میں ڈال دیں گے
جو بھی ہے ان کے پاس
تمہیں نہیں لینے دیں گے
اگر بہت سارے جمع ہو کے آو گے
تو بھی
آسمان ہے ان کے پاس
بادلوں کا لشکر لا کے تمہیں ڈبو دیں گے
زمین ہے ان کے پاس، تمہیں
کہیں جانے نہ دیں گے
کشتی ہے ان کے پاس
تمہیں بٹھا کے لے جائیں گے اور کسی
جزیرے پر چھوڑ دیں گے
چڑیوں کے ساتھ رہو گے تو سب کچھ بھول جاؤ گے
شاعروں کی شکل بھی اور اپنی بھی
جب وه تمہیں واپس لینے آئیں گے
شاید تم چڑیوں کو آگے کر دو گے
